Sorting pictures properly can be time-consuming, which is why most of use don't even bother. As a result, we can end up with multiple copies of the same image and it can take even more time to delete the duplicates. This is where specialized utilities like Anti-Twin come in. You can use it to compare images, as well as many other file types. The software can tell you which files are the same and it lets you erase them at a moment's notice.

Anti-Twin is free for private use and you can have it up and running in no time, on any modern Windows platform. Its setup package is small and its components can be installed without making any advanced configurations. The hardware requirements are modest and you don't have to install any prerequisite tools or services.

The user interface consists of two tabs. The first one is where you can make all the preparations and the results will show up on the second one. If you have all your duplicates in a single parent folder, it is sufficient to select that folder, through a standard browsing option, and click a button. Alternatively, if your duplicates are scattered in different places, you can choose to select a second folder.

Besides targeting the parent folders, you can also make a series of additional tweaks, for a more precise comparison. The software can compare all files or it can be restricted to sub-folder contents. Additionally, you can set it to compare names and to compare files with identical sizes, compare files byte by byte or perform a pixel-level comparison on images.

The scanning process doesn't take long. The results are listed on the second tab, where duplicate pairs are grouped together, to make them easier to spot. You can mark individual files for deletion, but an easier way is to use Anti-Twin's auto-select capabilities. You can target duplicates from specific parent folders, with or without sub-folders and you can also mark all files that have certain properties.

Once your duplicates are marked, you only need to click a button to delete them. What's more, the software can perform other actions, like moving them to another drive or to the recycle bin. Another option is to replace the files with a link to the originals. This way, you can save up hard drive space and still find your images in multiple folders.
